The Course consist of 5 highly interactive lectures and is supported by a rich virtual learning environment. The overall duration is on average 2 months in an evening schedule.
You can reach for two levels: Foundation or Practitioner. For the first level you receive a Proof of Participation. For the latter you receive a certificate. The practitioners level requires additional assignments in the making and/or judging a Business Case in your own working environment. The foundation requires your passionate contribution. A working environment in which you can practice what you learn and several years of work experience is recommended.

In today’s business world organisations sound and valid investment decisions are crucial. They are frequently, but not always made based on well-substantiated and relevant information.
Organisations use Business Cases to support the decision-making; the document that should provide the needed decision information. However, the daily practice shows that fewer than half of the companies use business case for all investments. They are often unbelievable due to over-optimism or poorly argumentation. In most cases, this is caused by a poor quality of provided decision information in a weak or even misleading Business Case.
You are facing the challenge how to do successfully create, improve, implement, monitor or evaluate a Business Case. You need is to to understand the principles of a Business Case, assess Business Cases and knowing how to make strong Business Case.

This module aims at providing students with the different insights, methods and practice that are available from for Business Case Management, give the opportunity to reflect on Business Cases and use the acquired skills in own practice.
After the course you developed yourself in mastering Business Case Management. Achievements within reach are improved abilities for:
- Creating strong Business Cases.
- Assessing and evaluating Business Cases.
- Using a shared concept and language by doing so.
After this course you have developed yourself in mastering business case management covering creation, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of Business Cases. You extended your professional network and shared intensively experiences with peer students. You are prepared for the making of strong business cases!
Organisations benefit from the increased business case management capability in its portfolio of investments and projects. In a in company course you are able to cash benefits as you go, due to the fact that we take your business cases in a Value Chain setting.
On successful completion you will receive a “Proof of Participation” (foundation) or a “Certificate” (Practitioner).
Management of Change study points builds up your personal learning portfolio. Each point is equivalent to 28 hours of study load. On request and against payment of a small fee you can ask a portfolio transcript for all of your Management of Change courses. Study points are limited to courses and masterclasses with an end assignment; in this case the Practitioner level earns 2 points. See Investment/Study Load for a breakdown.
The Business Case Management course is composed of 10 modules:
The modules are supported by a virtual learning environment with multimedia content and supporting tools.
Sessions and durations
The programme consist of 4 biweekly classroom sessions and has an overall average duration of two months. An overview of the modules per session:

Interwoven between the classroom sessions you have three learning group sessions (face2face or virtual) in which you work on group assignments with peer students.
Students for the practitioners level can use an additional two hours for individual meetings with the assessor of their learning product (see below).
For the Practitioners level we require a master worthy Business Case Assessment Report in which you have shown the improved ability to create a strong Business Case or critically assess a Business Case. It cashes you Business Case Management ability in your work practice.
During the Course you will be teached and tested in developing the gained competencies.
The final assessment on Practitioners level is – under Exam Board supervision – the beforementioned Business Case Assessment Report.
The main assessment criteria are covering the assessment of the:
- Completeness of the Business Case.
- Business Needs.
- Costs and Benefits.
- Financial Analysis.
- Strength of the Business Case.
Criteria are available from the opening of the course in the Virtual Learning Environment and earlier on request.
Deadline for the delivery of the Practitioner level’s end assignment is three months after buying the Practitioner’s extension. Resit is 6 months after buying the add on. Together with the beforementioned moment of buying the extension you will have 24 months for reaching the practitioner’s level.

The Business Case Management course can be followed independently or as a stepping stone towards a complete portfolio of Management of Change courses.

Within the context of the course students pro-actively defines personal learning objectives in order to give direction to their learning. So your learning is not a matter of chance, but of choice!
In order to maximize the effectuality of your learning, we use action learning in which complex business issues, problems and challenges are solved by students, using the theory in practice. Getting to the underlying root cause (upstream analysis), reflecting upon thinking and acting (evaluate) and dare to create solutions (create) gives you the ability to develop your problem solving capability and change leadership. You and your organisation will see the benefit of this.
We use a state of the art virtual learning environment in which students and teachers also meet virtually, co-create in learning activities, read study material, do tests and so on. Available for desktop, tablet and if you like on your mobile: so anytime and anyplace learning is within your reach.
Due to our belief that the real learning starts when the Course stops, you have free access to your Course for at least 2 years after your start. So your learning remain supported by the virtual environment, enabling you to stay in contact with peer students.
Between classroom sessions you organise yourself in Learning Groups (4-5 members) in order to execute group assignments: you will learn a lot from peer students.
Our classroom sessions are really flipped: building upon what you learned in our virtual learning environment and the beforementioned learning groups we have highly interactive sessions meeting with a mixture of dialogue, knowledge, cases and so on. So you won’t see a lot of slidewire in class; they are available in the virtual environment.
Our Teachers are trained and experienced professionals in the field of Business case management. They have a degree, have excellent teacher ratings and a business background in order to connect the theory with the practice in organisations.
